Blandt andet Ekstra Bladet.dk kunne mandag med overskriften ”Israel dræber mor og fire børn” fortælle at de fem blev uskyldige ofre for en israelsk granat.  Ifølge den israelske avis Israel Today, er der stort set ingen udenlandske medier der har fulgt op på historien og bragt den israelske version af sagen. Det på trods af, at versionen blev bragt i israelsk radio og tv.
Israelske talsmænd fortæller at de efter rapporter fra området har konstateret at de civile menneskers død skyldtes at terrorister med rygsække fyldt med ammunition brugte huset, hvor de civile opholdt sig til at søge i skjul. Ammunitionen eksploderede efter at være blevet ramt af israelske skud og herefter blev syv mennesker dræbt og seks såret.
